That sounds very promising. The "Target selecting" toggle is mostly the one issue clients have when we present the new cube viewer. We actually have one client which do not want to migrate to the new cube viewer as long as the "Target selecting" toggle is where it is right now. When the "Target selecting" toggle is moved, it would be desirable that the fill colour functionality would be applied to the blank white space which it leaves.
I really do hope this will be released rather soon than later and before the old cube viewer will be deprecated in version 84.
We are planning significant changes to the Targeted selection toggle and how asymmetric selection is handled in general in the cube viewer. This will likely include moving the toggle to the toolbar at the top of the book as well as modifier key support and context menu options for targeted selection as well as symmetric and asymmetric expand and collapse of consolidated members.
