Apply number format when editing a cell in PAW

We are using the german number format ("." as thousand separator and "," as decimal separator) in PAW. The format works fine for non-selected cells, but after a doubleklick into a cell the cell value is displayed with the default format (point as decimal separator). This can lead to incorrect inputs:

1. Write a decimal value for example 100.5 (100,5 in german format) into one cell

2. Double klick this cell, mark the content with ctrl+a and copy it with ctrl+c

3. Klick another cell once and paste via ctrl+v

4. The second cell now shows the value 1005, so it was multiplied by 10

All cells mentioned are at leaf level and there are no cube rules involved.

To prevent this error, the only solution is to ask users to never copy cell values when in "editing mode". This of course cannot be ensured and stays a potential source of errors.

IBM does not classify this as a bug, but for users of PAW the behaviour is highly confusing and can lead to incorrect inputs very fast.

The solution we propose is to make the number format apply to the cell values when a cell is edited. This would not be a big change, but would totally resolve the problem. Maybe a flag in the tm1s.cfg could activate and deactivate the custom formats, so that existing systems are not changed.

I've updated the status to future consideration (I thought a bit more about this and changed my mind). We are now tracking a work item that will make the unformatted value be displayed with language specific decimal delimiter (e.g in German it will show a comma). This will be a client side change only (no change in TM1 required).

I've declined this enhancement request. Unformatted values in TM1 are always displayed with the period as the decimal separator. In this case the formatted value should be used. There is an incorrect assumption that double clicking into the cell is putting the cell in 'Edit mode'. The cell value can be changed without double clicking into the cell. Double clicking in the cell shows the unformatted value. Without formatting we cannot apply a localization to determine if the period or comma should be displayed as the decimal separator.
