Retain Existing Workbook Permissions on Deployment

Presently, existing workbooks must be replaced when using the deployment process to transfer from one environment to another.  This method only allows for the inheritance of the parent folder's permissions or permission retention of the user performing the replacement.  Permission inheritance from the parent folder only works when all objects are intended to have the same permissions, however it is not practical if objects have explicit permissions.  As an administrator, I would like to be able to deploy workbook specifications from one environment to another and retain the existing permissions of the object(s) in the destination, essentially updating the specification; similar to the manner in which deployments are performed in Cognos Analytics.  This method could also take advantage of using the source folder structure.

This method would streamline the deployment process and require less work of the administrators.

Updated status to future consideration. We will consider moving group based permissions on Workspace content. This would allow us to support migration of permissions between environments that have the same name groups with different users in the groups.
