File Manager/Drive Explorer Security

With the removal of the Rich Tier Desktop services, we are faced with securing specific databases and folders within our environment. Currently, the File Manager does not provide visibility to all folders within a database, only the Data/model_upload folder. It would be better if it provided visibility to all folders within the database. However, even then we would want to allow/deny access to some folders, the way we can control with permissions on the FTP FileShare Usernames (ACLS file). The specific use case is that users can see all folders within a database, but only a subset of those users can see specific subfolders that contain confidential/sensitive/HR data.

Allowing users to see the entire environment through the Drive Explorer encounters similar security issues. Most of our users should not see all databases, only their own. We have a distributed environment, where each database is owned and managed by a particular agency/organization, with NO view of any of the other agencies’/organizations’ databases.

We need to be able to define permissions at different levels of the s drive within the File Manager or Drive Explorer.

This idea is under review. The ACL does not currently apply to the left side of the Drive Explorer (current environment). This is a known limitation that is being investigated to determine if a solution is possible.
