In Planning Analytics Workspace (PAW) by default calculated cells are shown with a green background, and read-only cells are shown with a gray background.
This feature is very useful because it stops users from trying to enter values in calculated or read-only cells.
However, the green background clashes with most of the color palettes I use. So, I turn the feature off. Instead, I use conditional formatting, typically by Version or Measure, to remove the background color and show calculate values in italics. Conditional formatting has two problems. First, it lacks the granularity of state because not all cells of a Version or Measure are always input versus calculated. Second, it is time consuming to apply conditional formatting for multiple Measures across multiple websheets.
If I were tasked with implementing this enhancement, I would independently toggle formatting the state for calculated versus read-only cells. When toggled on, I would provide full formatting of the calculated versus read-only cells including background color, font (color, italics, bold, font, etc.), and border.

This is absolutely on the current Planning Analytics roadmap. We have planned enhancements that will allow formatting based on type of cell. Part of this enhancement is to set individual format options based on the different properties of cells (e.g calculated, rule derived, consolidation, read only). We are also expanding the list of possible format options (e.g font, background color, font color, borders etc).
