Planning Analytics Workspace backup size limitation

See this idea on ideas.ibm.com

Problem Description

The backup.ps1 script, used to backup PAW in Windows Server, uses the compress-archive PowerShell command. This command uses the System.IO.Compression.ZipArchive API to compress files, and the API limits the maximum file size to 2GB.

Although PAW continues to function correctly, there is a risk that this 2GB limit has been exceeded, and the PAW backups are incomplete.

  1. Not being able to rely on backups adds considerable business risk to using PAW.

  2. And being wary of adding content to PAW in case it becomes too big for backups, limits its usefulness to the business.

  3. Furthermore, upgrading to PAW 2.0.100 requires a backup and restore to be performed. If a backup is not possible, then PAW cannot be upgraded.

Proposed Solution

It is requested that the backup.ps1 script be amended to replace the compress-archive command with another compression utility that does not have a file size limitation. For example, a call to 7-zip.

This is a critical aspect as the majority of models will be larger than 2GB compressed. And being an Administrator, being dependent on IBM to restore backups, and backup restorations that are sometimes mixed, it is crucial that the Administrators are able to create scripts to auto compress/uncompress specific folders (irrespective of the size).
