Planning Analytics Workspace repair of mongo database

Problem Description

It seems that when objects are deleted from PAW, the underlying mongo database does not release the disk space no longer required. In order for the size of the Mongo database to be reduced, a custom repair command needs to be run. (For example, a custom command provided by IBM Support reduced the size from 2.5GB to 450MB in 10s.)

This is especially of issue as there is a file size limitation to the PAW backup.ps1 utility. When files exceed this maximum, the PAW backup fails.

To minimise the risk of PAW backups failing, it is important for the PAW databases to use disk space efficiently.

Proposed Solution

It is requested that either:

  1. The backup.ps1 script be amended to include code to repair PAW databases before they are backed up. And/or,

  2. A separate PowerShell script is provided that can be run to repair PAW databases on a regular basis.
