Request to Re-enable Component Selection During Planning Analytics Upgrade

Dear IBM Support,

I would like to suggest reintroducing the option to select or unselect components during the upgrade process of IBM Planning Analytics. This feature was available in previous versions but appears to be missing in the upgrade from version 2.1.8 to 2.1.10.

In my specific case (Case ID: TS019276038), the absence of this option led to an issue with PAAgent after the upgrade. Here's a brief summary of the steps I followed:

  1. Upgraded PAW to version 2.1.10 – no issues encountered.

  2. Upgraded PAAgent to version 2.1.10 using the UpdatePAAAgent.bat PowerShell command – successful.

  3. Upgraded PASS to version 2.1.10 – also successful.

However, during the upgrade of Planning Analytics from 2.1.8 to 2.1.10, I was not given the option to deselect components. I suspect this caused the installer to overwrite PAAgent files, which led to the PAagent service failing to start. I attempted to resolve the issue using the provided .bat scripts (uninstall, register agent, etc.), but without success. Ultimately, I had to revert the VM to restore service functionality.

Additionally, please note that we intentionally maintain a custom installation path for TM1_64 (see attached screenshot = old tm1 path). We do not wish to use the default path D:\Program Files\ibm\TM1_64, which the installer currently enforces.

Given this experience, I am concerned that a similar issue may occur when upgrading from PA 2.0 to a future version. Reintroducing the ability to select components during installation would help prevent such conflicts and give administrators more control over the upgrade process.

Thank you for your consideration.

Have a nice day ahead!
