Waterfall charts or step charts are a common requirement for Financial Reporting. In Excel the approach is to use transparent colors in a stacked bar chart to build the height required to just show the differences). In the Explorer view a Waterfall Chart would be valid if the view has 2 columns and the first (or last) element on the rows is a consolidated element of it's children elements below (or above). Please see the attachment for more detail.
Ideally, the variances should be conditionally formatted base on being positive or negative. And the option to add lines to highlight the start or end of the stack.
