IBM Data Platform Ideas Portal for Customers

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against products and services offered by the IBM Data Platform organization. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Enable the use of MDX templates for dynamic subsets

Objective:
To prevent the proliferation of redundant copies of similar books, we require the ability to define dynamic, parameterizable subsets within selector widgets. This functionality should reflect the flexibility and reusability of MDX templates used in views, enabling streamlined configurations and reducing duplication across datasets.

Background / Pain Point:
In our daily operations, we work with multiple books that are structurally very similar but differ slightly in scope or content. Currently, each variation requires a separate copy, resulting in a high number of redundant configurations. This increases maintenance effort and raises the risk of inconsistencies.

Current Workaround:
We manually duplicate books and adjust the selector widget configurations for each version. While MDX templates provide dynamic logic for views, there is no equivalent mechanism for selector widgets, limiting our ability to reuse logic efficiently.

Proposed Solution:
We propose extending selector widgets to support dynamic, parameterizable subsets—similar to MDX templates. This would allow us to define reusable logic and pass parameters to tailor subset behavior, eliminating the need for multiple book copies.

Benefits:

  • Reduces configuration overhead and system clutter

  • Improves maintainability and consistency

  • Saves time during updates and onboarding of new datasets

  • Enhances scalability for future reporting needs

  • Synchronization between different dimensions/hierarchies
