Improve Object Selection Stability in Tree Pane of Planning Analytics Workbench

Dear IBM Support Team,

I am submitting this enhancement request to address an inconsistency in the object selection behavior within the Tree Pane of the Planning Analytics Workbench. Currently, selecting and copying object names is unreliable, which forces users to manually type them instead of using copy-paste functionality. This impacts productivity, especially when working with numerous objects.

Problem Description: The selection of objects in the Tree Pane is unstable. Users can sometimes select and copy 3-5 objects in succession, but subsequent attempts fail. Specifically:

  • Clicking directly on the object name highlights it in blue, allowing Ctrl+C to copy the name for use in code.

  • If the selection turns gray or fails to highlight, copying is not possible.

This behavior is inconsistent across selections and occurs in all tested browsers (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Edge). As a workaround, clicking to the left of the expand/collapse arrow (before the object name) consistently enables selection, but this is not intuitive and should not be required. The enhancement would ensure reliable selection regardless of the click location on the object row.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open the Planning Analytics Workbench and navigate to the Tree Pane (e.g., under Dimensions, Cubes, or Processes).

  2. Click directly on an object name (e.g., a Dimension or Process).

  3. Attempt Ctrl+C to copy the name.

    • Expected: Consistent blue highlight and successful copy.

    • Actual: Selection succeeds for initial objects but fails after a few attempts, with no highlight or copy functionality.

  4. Repeat with multiple objects; the issue manifests variably.

  5. Test clicking left of the arrow: This works reliably, but direct clicks on the name should behave the same.

Environment Details:

  • Planning Analytics Version: different version: 2.0, 2.1, 3.1

  • Browser(s) Tested: Chrome, Firefox, Edge (issue persists across all)

Note: A support ticket was previously created for this issue, and the IBM Support Team recommended filing it as an enhancement request, as it involves improving stability (potentially related to JavaScript event handling) rather than a critical defect. I believe a simple update to the click event handlers could resolve this for a more seamless user experience.

Thank you for considering this request. I look forward to your feedback and any updates on its progress.

Best regards

Vitalij

We will prioritize this request for 1H 2026. This might also include adding a copy menu to the context menu of most objects in the tree.
