Strong +1 from our side!
We regularly build complex PAW Books for clients (monthly reporting, driver-based planning, margin analysis, variance dashboards) and always hit the same wall: only 3 icons available (green circle, yellow diamond, red square).
This forces us to fall back on background colors + font styles (bold, brackets, underlines) as a workaround β which is less intuitive, harder to read at a glance (especially on mobile views or when printed/PDF-exported), and doesn't scale well for advanced FP&A communication.
The suggested additions (ππ for status/readiness, β οΈβ for warnings/errors, ππ for trends) are spot-on and would already help a lot.
Additional icons we often miss in real projects:
Directional arrows with different intensities (ββ β β β ββ) for variance strength
Colored bars (short / medium / long) or progress indicators for magnitude
Star ratings (β β β ) for performance tiers or scoring
Small flags, pins or tags for exceptions/outliers
Expanding the indicator set β or even allowing limited custom/user-uploaded icons β would make PAW Books much more competitive with Excel, Power BI or Tableau in terms of visual storytelling and user experience.
Thanks for raising this important idea β voting +1 and hoping IBM moves on this soon!
