Add GUI-based enforcement of minimum client version for Planning Analytics for Excel (PAfE)

Dear team,

In earlier TM1 versions, administrators could block outdated client versions by setting the ClientVersionMinimum parameter in tm1s.cfg. This parameter has since been deprecated and is no longer supported or available in current releases (Planning Analytics 2.1 with v11 engine and the new v12 engine, including cloud environments).

Today, administrators can only monitor PAfE client versions through logs or reports and must manually contact users. There is no way to centrally prevent connections from outdated or unsupported PAfE versions.

This results in server performance degradation: older PAfE versions are less efficient, leading to higher RAM consumption, longer view/exploration loading times in Excel, and unnecessary resource usage overall.

Requested enhancement: Introduce a modern, GUI-based mechanism in the Planning Analytics Administration tool (or PAW Admin section) to enforce minimum PAfE client versions:

  • Allow administrators to define the minimum supported PAfE version.

  • Automatically block login attempts from older versions, displaying a customizable error message (e.g., "Please update to the latest Planning Analytics for Excel").

  • Optional: Send automatic notifications (email) to affected users and/or administrators.

  • Integrate with existing client version monitoring and reporting features.

Business value / Benefits:

  • Significantly improved server performance and reduced memory/CPU usage.

  • Better resource management, especially in large-scale and cloud environments.

  • Enhanced security by blocking unsupported or vulnerable client versions.

  • Simplified administration – no need for manual user communication or outdated config workarounds.

  • Promotes faster adoption of the latest, optimized PAfE releases.

Thanks in advance.

With best regards,
Vitalij
