Enable Advanced Border Configuration (Style, Color, Thickness) for Row/Column Headers and Enhanced Borders for Data Cells in PAW Format Manager

Dear team,

Business Case / Summary:
In Planning Analytics Workspace (PAW), the Format Manager allows basic formatting for data cells and headers, but border options are severely limited:

  • Data cells: Borders exist only as simple on/off toggles (no style like solid/dashed, no color picker, no thickness/width control).

  • Header cells: No border configuration at all in "Format header cells" (only fill color, font, alignment).

This prevents professional grid design in reports/books: e.g., thin subtle lines for data separation, thick emphasis borders on total headers, color-coded borders (red for negatives), or consistent header/data styling in P&L/financial views. Global table borders are too uniform and coarse.

Expected Benefit:

  • Pixel-perfect, readable reports with visual hierarchy (e.g., borders to separate scenarios like Ist/Plan, highlight totals).

  • Full control over borders for headers and data, matching modern BI tools.

  • Significant time savings and better UX for modeling/reporting teams.

Environment:

  • Planning Analytics versions: 2.1.17+ (tested; no change in recent releases)

  • Component: PAW Cube Viewer / Explorations / Books – Format Manager (Header/Data Cells)

  • Browsers: Chrome/Edge, Windows

Steps to Reproduce Current Limitation:

  1. Open cube view in Edit mode.

  2. Right-click column/row header → Member Format.

  3. "Format header cells": No Borders section (only Fill, Font, etc.).

  4. "Format data cells": Borders toggle on/off only → no style, color, or thickness.

  5. Properties → Table style: Global borders only, no granularity.

Actual Behavior:

  • Headers: Completely missing border options.

  • Data cells: Borders limited to presence/absence; no customization.

Expected Behavior:

  • Add full Borders section to "Format header cells" and enhance "Format data cells":

    • Style (solid, dashed, dotted, none).

    • Color (picker).

    • Thickness/Width (numeric/slider or presets: thin to thick).

    • Separate top/bottom/left/right.

  • Support in Conditional Rules and Hierarchy Tab.

  • Persist in Books/Views.

Reference: Builds on 2023 RFE "Ability to configure border on columns/row headers in PAW view" (Stuart King: 2023 Roadmap) – not fully implemented. Related to ongoing formatting enhancements.

With best regards,
Vitalij

    Building on this topic,
it would be very valuable to allow custom color selection in the Conditional Data Rules panel.

Currently, after creating a conditional rule, users are restricted to the default color palette, which limits visual standardization and usability
