Enable Dynamic Widget Titles in PAW Books Using Book Parameters or Selector Values (Live Update Based on Filters)

Dear team,

Business Case / Summary:
In Planning Analytics Workspace (PAW) Books, the widget title (Visualization Properties → General → Title for Cube Views, Charts, etc.) is static text only. There is no support for book parameters, MDX expressions, global variables, or selector/filter values in the title field.

Users want titles like "GuV Actual", "GuV HGB" or "Profit & Loss 2025" that update automatically when a version/year selector changes. Currently, only data in the view updates – the visible header remains static, leading to confusion or manual workarounds (e.g., separate text widgets).

Expected Benefit:

  • Self-explanatory dashboards: Title reflects current filter/version without extra widgets or manual edits.

  • Better user experience for end-users and finance teams (no need to check selectors separately).

  • Alignment with modern BI tools (dynamic titles based on parameters/filters).

Environment:

  • Planning Analytics versions: 2.1.17+ (tested; title static)

  • Component: PAW Books – Visualization Properties (Widget Title/Header), Cube View / Chart Widgets

  • Browsers: Chrome/Edge, Windows

Steps to Reproduce Limitation:

  1. Create Book with Cube View Widget (e.g., GuV).

  2. Add Book Parameter <selectedVersion> (Source: Book, Dimension: 000_Version, Type: Set).

  3. Add Selector Widget for Version (sync'd to view via synchronization group).

  4. In View Properties → General → Title: Try "GuV {[<selectedVersion>].Caption}" or similar → Title shows literal text or nothing; no update on selector change.

Actual Behavior:
Widget title is fixed static text; no MDX, parameter references, or live update from selectors/book parameters.

Expected Behavior:

  • Allow MDX expressions or parameter references in Title field (e.g., "GuV {[<selectedVersion>].Caption}").

  • OR direct sync/link from selector to widget title.

  • Live update when selector/filter changes.

Reference:
Builds on parameterized MDX/global variables (2.0.106+) and synchronization features. Related to usability enhancements in books (e.g., previous tickets/ideas on dynamic elements).

With best regards,
Vitalij
