Allow Direct Assignment of Filters/Selectors to Specific Tabs in PAW Books (Tab-Specific Synchronization Without Custom Groups)

Dear team,

Business Case / Summary:
In Planning Analytics Workspace (PAW) Books, selectors/filters can be synchronized globally (Book scope) or via custom synchronization groups (assigning widgets to groups for tab-specific sync). However, there is no direct way to assign a filter/selector exclusively to specific tabs/reiters (sheets) without manual group setup for each widget.

This leads to extra configuration in multi-tab Books: Users must create custom groups per tab to isolate sync, which is cumbersome for large dashboards with independent tabs (e.g., one tab for "Actual" GuV, another for "Budget" – each with own version filter).

Expected Benefit:

  • Simpler Book design: Assign filters directly to tabs (e.g., "Apply to Tab 1 only" or "Apply to Tabs 1,3") for independent tab workflows.

  • Reduced setup time and errors in complex financial/planning Books.

  • Better UX for end-users: Filters don't accidentally sync across unrelated tabs.

Environment:

  • Planning Analytics versions: 2.1.17+ (tested; relies on groups for tab isolation)

  • Component: PAW Books – Selectors/Filters, Synchronization Properties

  • Browsers: Chrome/Edge, Windows

Steps to Reproduce Current Limitation:

  1. Create multi-tab Book with Cube Views on different tabs.

  2. Add Selector (e.g., for Version dim) on Tab 1.

  3. In Properties → Synchronize: Set to group or hierarchy sync → Sync applies globally or requires custom group per tab/widget.

  4. No option to assign selector directly to "Tab 1 only" without group config.

Actual Behavior:
Synchronization requires manual custom groups for tab-specific isolation; no direct tab assignment for filters/selectors.

Expected Behavior:

  • Add option in Selector Properties: "Apply to tabs" (multi-select tabs/reiters in the Book).

  • OR auto-scope to current tab (with toggle for global/multi-tab).

  • Live sync only to selected tabs' widgets.

Reference: Builds on synchronization groups (enhanced in 2.1.x) and parameterized features. Related to Book usability (previous ideas on dynamic elements).

With best regards,
Vitalij
