Set a company-wide default Global Color Palette for all new Books and Visualizations in Planning Analytics Workspace

Dear team,

Administrators can create and publish global color palettes (Administration → Excel and Customizations → Palettes → Add global palette). These palettes are then available to all users and can be selected manually.

Current limitation:
There is no option to designate one of these global palettes as the automatic default for newly created Books, Tabs, or Visualizations. Every new visualization (bar chart, line chart, heatmap, etc.) and every new Book always starts with the IBM default palette. Users (or content creators) must manually switch to the desired corporate palette every single time a new visualization is added.

This leads to:

  • Significant time loss in large teams

  • Inconsistent dashboards and reports across the organization

  • Challenges enforcing corporate branding and color guidelines

  • Reduced user adoption of PAW as the primary reporting tool (many revert to Excel for better control)

Requested enhancement:
Add a simple admin setting (e.g. in the Palettes section or under Customizations) to mark a global palette as “Default for new content” or “Set as default palette for new Books and Visualizations”. Once set, every newly created visualization and every new Book should automatically apply this palette — no manual selection required.

Workarounds currently in use (all insufficient for scale):

  • Master template Books with pre-configured example visualizations (newly added visuals still default to IBM palette)

  • User training to always change the palette manually

  • JSON editing of exported Books (unsupported, error-prone, not scalable)

This small change would greatly improve governance, branding consistency, productivity, and the overall user experience in Planning Analytics Workspace — especially for companies with strict corporate design rules.

Thanks in advance.

With best regards,
Vitalij
