Allow customization of displayed content in inline dimension selectors (Subsets / Levels / Elements)

Dear team,

Idea Description:

In PAW Explorations and Cube Views, the content shown in inline dimension selectors currently depends on the placement of the dimension and offers almost no configuration options:

  • When the dimension is placed in the header / slicer (Pages), only Elements are displayed.

  • When the dimension is placed in Rows or Columns, a combination of Subsets and Levels is shown.

There is currently no way for the user or developer to control what appears in these inline selectors. It is not possible to restrict the selector to show only Subsets, only Levels, only Elements, or any desired combination.

Full control is only available after dragging the selector out of the view and using it as a separate widget.

Requested Enhancement:

Please extend the existing configuration options (already available for detached selector widgets) to inline dimension selectors in Explorations and Cube Views.

It should be possible to define per inline selector which content types to display:

  • Subsets only

  • Levels only

  • Elements only

  • Any combination of the above

This setting should be accessible directly in the properties of the inline selector (ideally depending on whether the dimension is used in Rows, Columns, or Pages).

Business Value:

  • Much more consistent and controllable behavior across the entire Exploration

  • Significantly better usability when working with hierarchical dimensions and custom public subsets

  • Cleaner and more professional Explorations (especially in Rows and Columns)

  • Reduced need to detach selectors just to get the desired display behavior

The required functionality already exists for detached widgets. Extending it to inline selectors would close a noticeable usability gap with relatively low development effort.

Thanks in advance.

With best regards,
Vitalij
