Dynamic Navigation Target for Action Buttons (Book and Sheet name driven by TM1 Cube or Parameters)

Dear team,

Description: Currently, Action Buttons in Planning Analytics Workspace only support static navigation targets for Book name and Sheet (Tab) name.

It should be possible to define these targets dynamically at runtime by reading values from a TM1 cube cell (e.g. a navigation or parameter cube) or from application-level parameters. This would enable context-sensitive navigation driven by business logic rather than hard-coded configuration.

Business Value / Use Cases:

  • Central navigation hub that routes users to context-specific books (e.g. based on Cost Center, Region, Scenario, Version)

  • Role- and context-based reporting landscapes

  • Significant reduction of duplicated books and reports

  • Easier maintenance of large-scale PAW applications

Relation to previous requests: This idea builds on my earlier submissions regarding dynamic cell references for Action Buttons and adding a sheetname parameter to the TM1 URL API. A dynamic target capability would solve these related navigation and maintainability issues in a comprehensive way.

Proposed Implementation: Add a “Dynamic Target” option in the Action Button configuration. When selected, the navigation target is resolved at the moment of execution (on button click) before navigation is performed.

The resolved values define:

  • Target Book name (required)

  • Target Sheet/Tab name (optional)

The values can be sourced from:

  • A TM1 cube cell (via cube, dimensions, and element coordinates)

  • Application-level parameters (e.g. PAW or TM1 configuration context)

Governance & Security Considerations:

  • Support optional fallback to a static navigation target

  • Allow administrators to restrict allowed source cubes and dimensions for security purposes

  • Validate that the resolved Book and Sheet exist before navigation

  • Prevent execution of arbitrary or malformed navigation targets

  • Ensure deterministic evaluation at runtime with no client-side ambiguity or caching side effects

Thanks in advance.

With best regards,
Vitalij
