Improve configuration guidance and diagnostic feedback for Workflow and Data Accountability

Dear team,

Description

Current behavior

When configuring Data Accountability and Workflow features in Planning Analytics Workspace, several UI actions may remain disabled without providing any explanation to the user.

Examples include:

  • Data Accountability Task

  • Update Processes

  • Save

  • Other related Workflow configuration actions

In many cases, users receive no indication why an action is unavailable or why a configuration step cannot be completed.

In addition, when background setup operations (including internal }Plans_* processes such as }Plans_Setup) fail, the UI often provides little or no actionable feedback. Administrators often have to investigate log files or execute internal processes manually to determine the underlying cause.

Requested enhancement

Improve the overall user experience by providing clear validation, status information, and user guidance throughout the configuration process.

Suggested improvements include:

  • Validate required prerequisites before enabling actions.

  • Display tooltips explaining why an action is disabled.

  • Show inline validation messages for missing or incomplete configuration steps.

  • Present meaningful error messages when background setup operations fail.

  • Clearly identify which prerequisite is missing.

  • Provide recommended next steps to resolve the issue.

  • Display the current configuration status (for example: Configured, Incomplete, or Missing prerequisite).

Examples of prerequisites that the UI could validate include:

  • Required hierarchy structure (for example, a single-root hierarchy)

  • Mandatory configuration sequence

  • Missing administrative permissions

  • Dependencies between Data Accountability and Workflow configuration

  • Missing objects or configuration artifacts created during setup

Business value

Providing transparent validation and meaningful user feedback would:

  • Reduce implementation time.

  • Lower the learning curve for new administrators.

  • Minimize unnecessary support cases.

  • Simplify troubleshooting.

  • Improve the overall usability of Planning Analytics Workflow and Data Accountability.

A guided configuration experience with clear explanations would make these features easier to configure, especially for first-time implementations and customer self-service deployments.

Overall, this enhancement would improve usability, reduce user frustration, and make the configuration process more intuitive, predictable, and self-explanatory.

This request focuses on improving the administrator and configuration experience rather than introducing additional business validation for Workflow tasks.

With best regards,
Vitalij

A clearer configuration experience would be especially valuable for administrators who manage Planning Analytics Workspace without deep product knowledge.

Instead of investigating logs or technical processes to understand configuration issues, users should receive direct guidance about what is missing and how to resolve it.

Better visibility into the current configuration state would increase confidence and make Workflow and Data Accountability easier to adopt across organizations.

This enhancement would significantly improve the implementation experience for Planning Analytics Workspace Workflow and Data Accountability.

During customer implementations, administrators often spend considerable time identifying missing prerequisites or understanding why certain actions are unavailable.

Providing guided validation and actionable feedback directly in the UI would reduce troubleshooting effort, shorten implementation cycles, and make the configuration process more predictable.
