IBCS-style In-Cell Variance Charts for PAW Tables

We would like Planning Analytics Workspace tables to support embedded variance charts directly within cells.

For variance columns (e.g. Actual vs Budget, Actual vs Prior Year), users should be able to display a horizontal variance bar around a zero axis, similar to IBCS management reporting standards (see attachments).

Example:

  • Negative variances displayed as bars extending to the left
  • Positive variances displayed as bars extending to the right
  • Numeric value displayed together with the bar
  • Configurable colors and scaling
  • Support for financial and management reporting scenarios

This would allow users to immediately recognize both the direction and magnitude of variances without having to read and compare every value individually.

Business Value:

In-cell variance charts would significantly enhance the reporting capabilities of Planning Analytics Workspace and improve the user experience for finance and controlling users.

Many organizations currently use additional BI tools primarily to achieve simple variance visualizations in management reports. Providing IBCS-style variance charts directly within PAW tables would enable more management-ready reporting directly on top of TM1 data, reducing the need for separate BI dashboards for basic variance analysis.

This would increase user adoption and further strengthen PAW as a unified platform for planning, analysis, and reporting.
