Reset an entire plan in one action in Applications and Plans

Dear team,

Summary

In Planning Analytics Workspace, a plan cannot currently be reset with a single action. Plan owners and co-owners can reset submissions for individual tasks via Manage Submissions, but there is no plan-level action to reset all tasks at once.

Current situation

After completing a planning cycle, or when repeating a test run, plan owners/co-owners have to reset tasks individually.

For plans containing many workflow or data-accountability tasks, this becomes a time-consuming and error-prone manual process. Each task has to be opened and reset separately, even when the intention is simply to restart the entire plan from its initial state.

Requested enhancement

Provide a plan-level Reset action that resets all tasks in the plan in one step.

The plan-level reset should apply the same reset behavior that is currently available for an individual task via Manage Submissions → Reset, returning the affected tasks to their initial/unowned state.

If a plan contains more than one task type (for example, data-accountability tasks and regular tasks), the reset should cover the entire plan consistently, rather than requiring users to handle different task types separately. The exact implementation may depend on the task type, but the user expectation is a single action that restarts the complete plan.

The action should:

  • be available to plan owners and co-owners only

  • reset all tasks in the plan in one action

  • return task ownership/submission status to the initial state

  • keep the plan definition unchanged

  • keep tasks, assets, assignments and workflow-process configuration unchanged

  • leave existing object permissions unchanged

  • not require users to reset each task individually

A confirmation dialog should be displayed before executing the reset, as the action affects the complete plan.

Business benefit

Planning processes such as month-end, forecast and budgeting cycles are frequently reused. A plan-level reset would make it possible to restart a planning cycle quickly after completion, testing or corrections.

This significantly reduces manual effort and avoids the risk of accidentally leaving individual tasks in a previously submitted or owned state.

Expected result

A plan owner or co-owner can select Reset Plan and reset the complete plan in one action.

The existing single-task reset remains available when only one task needs to be reset.

Out of scope

  • No change to submit/approve logic

  • No change to Workflow Processes themselves

  • No change to task definitions or plan structure

  • No change to existing object permissions

With best regards,
Vitalij

    +1

This would be a very useful addition for recurring planning processes. In practice, we often need to restart a complete plan after testing, corrections or a completed planning cycle.

Resetting tasks individually works, but with larger plans it becomes a repetitive administrative task and it is easy to miss one task. A single "Reset Plan" action would make restarting a workflow much more reliable and significantly reduce manual effort.

I would definitely use this in customer planning environments.
