PAW Action Button: Rebuild all websheets in the current book

Dear team,

Idea

In Planning Analytics Workspace, a book can contain multiple websheets (published Excel files containing Dynamic Reports or Active Forms).

Users often need a single control to rebuild all websheets in the current book, especially after changing titles, context, or other report-driving selections.

For example, in a planning book with multiple expense input and reporting websheets, users may change the entity or period and then need all relevant Dynamic Reports / Active Forms to be rebuilt.

Today, this is inconsistent:

  • The book/websheet toolbar provides functionality to refresh and rebuild websheet content.

  • A PAW Action Button can refresh the current or target book and perform navigation or other actions.

  • However, an Action Button cannot trigger the existing Rebuild webbook functionality for all websheets in the book.

Refresh and Rebuild are not the same operation.

A refresh updates the existing report data, while a rebuild recreates the row structure of Dynamic Reports / Active Forms, including rows generated by TM1RPT* functions.

For books containing several Excel websheets, users therefore have to use the toolbar or rebuild individual sheets rather than having a single, guided control on the PAW canvas.

Request

Expose the existing PAW Rebuild webbook functionality as an Action Button action, so that developers can place it directly on the canvas and rebuild all websheets in the current book.

Why it matters

Planning and reporting books with multiple published Excel websheets are common.

Toolbar-based rebuild functionality is easy for technical users to find, but it is not ideal as part of a guided workflow for business users. Action Buttons are already used for process execution, navigation, and refresh operations.

Adding the rebuild action would allow developers to make the complete workflow explicit:

Change context → Run process / make selections → Rebuild reports

Without such an action, rebuilding cannot currently be incorporated into the guided workflow.

Workaround today

Users can use the book/websheet toolbar to rebuild the content manually.

Alternatively, a rebuild-related action can be provided within an individual PAfE workbook, but this only addresses that specific Excel file and does not provide a single control for all websheets in a PAW book.

This Idea originated from a Community discussion about rebuilding all websheets in a PAW book with a button.

The existing Rebuild webbook functionality already provides the required behavior from the toolbar. The missing piece is the ability to expose that functionality through a PAW Action Button, so it can become part of a guided workflow for business users.

The use case is particularly relevant for books containing multiple Dynamic Reports / Active Forms across several Excel websheets, where users need to rebuild the reports after changing the report-driving context.
