Dear team,
Description
When configuring an Action Button with a Cell parameter in Planning Analytics Workspace, the Member selection area can provide insufficient space to display member names.
In the default member selection view, the picker takes the member hierarchy into account. The hierarchy structure requires additional horizontal space for indentation and related information, leaving only a limited amount of space for the actual member name.
As a result, longer member names can be truncated, for example:
PR_Param_001
PR_Param_002
may be displayed only partially, such as PR_Para....
When a user searches for a member or enters a string in the filter field, the results are presented as a simpler, flat list. This layout provides more horizontal space for the member names.
The different layouts are understandable because they represent different types of member lists. However, the initial hierarchy-based view should still provide enough space to identify the members reliably.
Currently, users may therefore need to manually resize the Member column before they can distinguish between similar member names.
Requested enhancement
The Member column should automatically determine a suitable minimum width based on the displayed member names currently loaded into the picker list and the required hierarchy indentation.
The automatic width calculation should consider the member name currently displayed in the picker, rather than the underlying MUN or the complete dimension contents.
A possible approach would be:
Calculate the required width based on the member names currently loaded into the picker list.
Include the required hierarchy indentation.
Add a reasonable amount of padding.
Retain the current default width as the absolute minimum, so the column does not become narrower than it is today.
Apply a sensible maximum width so that the Member column cannot consume the entire dialog.
Keep manual resizing available for users who need additional space.
The automatic width calculation should be performed when the picker is opened and when changes to the hierarchy or filtering result in a substantially different displayed member list. It should not need to be recalculated continuously while scrolling.
Expected behavior
When the Cell parameter member picker is opened:
The Member column automatically receives an appropriate width based on the currently loaded member names.
Longer member names should be readable without requiring the user to manually resize the column first, where sufficient dialog space is available.
The hierarchy structure and required indentation remain fully usable.
The column never becomes narrower than the current default width.
The automatically determined width does not exceed a reasonable maximum.
The Member column remains manually resizable.
Tooltips and manual resizing can remain available as fallbacks, but they should not be necessary simply to identify members that are already displayed in the list.
Acceptance criteria
Long member names in the default hierarchy view can be distinguished without manual resizing, provided sufficient dialog width is available.
The automatically calculated width is based on the member names currently loaded into the picker list.
Hierarchy indentation is included in the width calculation.
The current default width is retained as the minimum width.
A reasonable maximum width prevents the Member column from consuming the entire dialog.
Users can still manually resize the column when additional space is required.
Scope
This request is specifically focused on the Member column width in the Action Button → Cell parameter member picker.
A similar approach could potentially be beneficial in other member-selection controls, but those are outside the scope of this request.
Business / User Benefit
Action Buttons with Cell parameters are frequently configured by Planning Analytics modelers and administrators using technical member names.
Long and similarly named members are common in Planning Analytics environments. When these names are truncated, users cannot reliably distinguish between members without additional interaction.
For example, when several members follow a naming convention such as PR_Param_001, PR_Param_002, PR_Param_003, etc., displaying only PR_Para... makes the selection ambiguous.
Automatically providing an appropriate minimum width would eliminate unnecessary extra clicks and make the configuration workflow faster and more reliable.
The enhancement would not require a redesign of the existing picker. It would improve the existing control by making better use of the available horizontal space while preserving the current hierarchy representation and manual resizing functionality.
Thanks in advance.
With best regards,
Vitalij

I support this enhancement.
When working with Action Buttons and Cell parameters, long member names are often difficult to identify in the default member picker because the Member column is too narrow.
Having the column automatically sized to the displayed member names would make the selection much easier and avoid the need to manually resize the column every time.
This would be a small UI improvement with a noticeable impact on usability, especially in models with long or similarly named members.
