Support selected Universal Report row/column members as Action Button sources in Planning Analytics for Excel

Description

In Planning Analytics for Excel, Dynamic Reports and Custom Reports allow an Action Button to use Selected DBRW. That option reads the member context of the active DBRW cell and can pass the corresponding row/column members to title dimensions on a target sheet.

A common pattern is: the user selects a GL account row, clicks the Action Button, and the selected account is applied on the target sheet.

Universal Reports in PAfE do not use DBRW. There is currently no equivalent Action Button option that reads the member of the selected Universal Report row or column. If that member exists only as part of the UR axis definition and is not stored in a normal Excel cell, the same navigation pattern cannot be reproduced natively. Workarounds (helper cells, named ranges, VBA) are not an equivalent.

Requested enhancement

Add an Action Button option in PAfE that retrieves the member(s) of the currently selected Universal Report row and/or column and makes them available for mapping to the target sheet, comparable to Selected DBRW.

The source should be the member text currently displayed on that UR axis.

Expected behavior

• The user selects a row or column in a Universal Report and clicks an Action Button.

• The Action Button can use that axis member as a mapping source.

• The member can be passed to a title dimension / SUBNM on the target sheet.

• No helper cell or VBA should be required for this pattern.

Example

A Universal Report has GL accounts on rows. The user selects one account row and clicks the Action Button. The selected GL account is passed to the matching title dimension on the target sheet.

Benefit

Restores a standard PAfE navigation pattern when reports move from Dynamic/Custom Reports to Universal Reports, and removes a conversion blocker for existing Action Button drill-to-detail workbooks.

Scope

Planning Analytics for Excel only.

Limited to selected Universal Report row/column members as an Action Button source/mapping option.
