IBM Data and AI Ideas Portal for Customers

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against products and services offered by the IBM Data & AI organization. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

MDX Object Type for Picklists

Picklists are a powerful tool when designing front ends.

Currently we have to create a subset to hold an MDX expression to drive the user selection. As the complexity of the front-ends increase the volume of public subsets that need to be pre-created to manage the possible paths through the front end increase. Creating the subsets just to drive the picklists creates unrequired objects on the server, clutter for the users and the risk of breaking front ends through erroneous deletion.

Creating a subset to hold MDX to drive picklists creates a redundant object.

Would be great when having articles and you need to limit the amount of elements displayed, rather than maintaining a 1000 subsets just to ensure you can select by article category.

I have a simple case to prove the need of this. You have a data entry for a start date and an end date, both picklist driven. End date cannot be before start date obviously. Or other dependencies could exist.

I would want to limit the choices in the end date picklist based on the start date choice. How ? Should I create thousands of public subsets, 1 per day ? Should I ask the user to push a TI button each time they set or change the start date, to create and fill a subset, refresh the sheet and have a public subset like that (to be cleaned up later) ? This cannot be the solution, right ?

Could be used to create cascading picklists without having to reference named subsets.

If this is possible, we could make the MDX string dynamic with rules given the context of the picklist.
