PAW - Export to Excel - Customize Workbook Name

Exporting a view from a paw book to excel will default to the view name used to create the report, however there are many times which a user will start with a different report as their basis for creating a new PAW book. Since the view that was used was from a prior report it may cause confusion. What I would look is an enhancement to enable custom naming of the exported excel file which can be defaulted to the report view.

    Hello team,

Unfortunately, this issue remains unchanged in the latest versions (as of March 2026: PAW 2.1.18 Local and 3.1.5 SaaS). Exporting a view from a book to Excel (via the toolbar icon) still uses only the default view name as the filename, with no option to enter or customize it during export.

This continues to cause confusion and extra work, especially when:

    • Books are built from existing views/reports (as described originally),

    • Multiple similar views are exported and filenames become identical/misleading,

    • Users frequently share or archive reports – meaningful filenames (e.g., 'Q1_2026_CostCenter_XYZ.xlsx') are essential for traceability.

Manual renaming after each export is inefficient at scale. The CSV export allows custom names but lacks Excel formatting, freezes, etc.

Please reconsider this enhancement (prompt for custom filename on export, defaulting to view/book name) – it would greatly improve usability, similar to features in other BI tools.

We keep voting and hope for reevaluation as votes grow. Any internal plans for export improvements?

    Thanks & best regards!

Please rename the Excel file after export.
