Allow Alternate hierarchies to align at leaf level

I have a default hierarchy - Type Facility (i.e., Type of Facility). It has levels: All-> Type facility -> Facility. Type Facility is a concatenation of several attributes that identify the facility: Facility Type - Facility Subtype - Area - Capacity - etc. I display it in a view as well as a Cognos dashboard that shows the hierarchy (top to bottom) and shows a series of costs that are used to derive liability cost for the facility. I need to allow the user to filter out certain facility types or subtypes from it in the view or dashboard. I chose an alternate hierarchy for this: Alt -> Facility Type -> Facility Subtype -> Facility. I dropped this on the filter pane and tried filtering on a single facility type - the appropriate rows in the default hierarchy in the view do not get filtered out. I tried dropping the alternate hierarchy into the view next to the default hierarchy - I see that the entire alternate hierarchy is duplicated for every row of the default hierarchy. This is no different from a duplicate dimension and does not meet the need for a true alternate hierarchy. The alternate hierarchy should align with the default hierarchy - when dropping the alternate hierarchy into the view, not every row of the alternate should display. The alternate hierarchies leaves should be matched with the default hierarchies leaves, such that you only see the alternate hierarchy members that are applicable to the default hierarchy members.

Hi, I would like to reopen this. This is indeed an issue. Alternate hierarchies work differently from Attribute hierarchies in this regard. Attribute hierarchies align/match at leaf level, thus allowing filtering on attribute hierarchies, while displaying the default hierarchy in a view. Alternate hierarchies don't do this - they act like an independent dimension. This does not seem right. A lot of additional work would need to be put in into the calculations to make alternate hierarchies align/match at leaf level with the default hierarchy,
