Help IBM prioritize your ideas and requests

The IBM team may need your help to refine the ideas so they may ask for more information or feedback. The product management team will then decide if they can begin working on your idea. If they can start during the next development cycle, they will put the idea on the priority list. Each team at IBM works on a different schedule, where some ideas can be implemented right away, others may be placed on a different schedule.

Receive notification on the decision

Some ideas can be implemented at IBM, while others may not fit within the development plans for the product. In either case, the team will let you know as soon as possible. In some cases, we may be able to find alternatives for ideas which cannot be implemented in a reasonable time.

The Q-Replication apply programm shall be able to call the Db2 High Performance Unload (HPU) utility by the HPU stored procedure


in enterprise warehouse and OLTP areas of DB2 installations exist often very big databases with several tera bytes (often 100 of TBs) of data.

For example we have several OLTP databases with more than 20TB and tables with billion of records.

This OLTP systems are Db2 LUW DPF (Dynamic Partition Feature) databases, tables are hash as well as range partitioned.

Our data warehouse is a Db2 LUW DPF MPP (Massively Prallel Pocessing) Cluster spread over several  physical severs.

The data warehouse is populated by Q-Replication.

A full refresh (new LOAD) in our column-organized tables is time-consuming due to the preperation time in order to develop scripts and  the handling of the huge amount of data.

The Db2 High Performance Unload (HPU) Tool reduce the time to UNLOAD/LOAD Db2 tables.

The Db2 HPU reduce the LOAD duration because it can UNLOAD/LOAD from hash partitoned as well as range partitoned tables in parallel in particular from DPF source into DPF target databases.

HPU provides a stored procedure installed at the Db2 LUW or Db2 for z/OS source database and can be called from a Db2 CLI or JDBC Client at the target site.

HPU stored procedure can either create pipes to do an UNLOAD/LOAD or UNLOAD the source tables into files and the LOAD utility at the target database read the data from the files.

In a Q-Replication environment can a full refresh performed by HPU only in a manual LOAD setup.

Manual LOADs leads into more effort for administartors because the LOAD itself is manual, the subscription start and stop as well, extra Monitoring is required etc.

The idea is to leverage the Q-Replication apply program in order to call the HPU stored procedure at the source database to perform an automatic LOAD via the HPU stored procedure into target tables.

This new option shall be configurable for each subscription.
