Enhance Session Scheduler Task Accounting File Options

Going over the available documentation on Session Scheduler, I’ve found a few gap under a single class of gap that will limit adoption, though I must say, the solution is not that far off from perfect.

Main Issue: Unable to define a user/job specific accounting file location.

Discussion: There is a lsb.params variable for the session scheduler account directory. That’s well and good, but it’s not in a very accessible location. It would be better instead to have session scheduler support any of the following other options:

  1. The $HOME/ssched/ location in lsb.params. If the directory does not exist, create it.

  2. Have a session scheduler option to generate an accounting file or not. Something like ‘-a “optional path”’ or -aN for don’t generate one even if the lsb.params setting is there.

  3. Have an environment variable that the user can set, make it the same as the variable in lsb.params. Have that location override the default location.

  4. If the lsb.params setting is missing, and the user submits a session using -a with no options, then use the CWD as the location for the account file.

Summary: If this gap were to be corrected, I would think that Session Scheduler would be much more usable here and more broadly EDA.
