As part of working towards our net zero we would like to request more general energy measurement for non-exclusive jobs. We believe this would benefit all LSF users, particularly those working in the UK research environment where there is an increasing sensitivity to energy consumption by the UKs digital research infrastructure. We believe that better instrumentation of production jobs will allow us to improve the efficiency of code being run on our clusters.
As per (https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/spectrum-lsf/10.1.0?topic=management-job-energy-usage-reporting [ibm.com]) LSF_COLLECT_ENERGY_USAGE currently collects energy usage for exclusive jobs only and reports to bacct. We would like to extend this to non-exclusive jobs, and are willing to accept best guess if necessary. We understand that this may be possible via the linux Perf energy interface performance counters. It would also be helpful if the methodology used for collecting the value is logged with the jobs energy usage.
We would also like this to be visible in bjobs -l; available for reporting in lsb.events; and the new APIs.
