Request span[hosts=1] parameter support in ec2 fleet dynamic slot based capacity. We cannot use spot with right sizing with slot based capacity since our job will not support running across multiple hosts.

We would like to us Spot instances in AWS using ec2 fleet and LSF. We would like to use Dynamic capacity (weighted capacity)from ec2 fleet to choose right instance size. This works with slot based capacity. the moment we use span[hosts=1] parameter bsub command, right sizing doesnot work. Jobs goes in pending state.

Could this be resolved through configuration?

Each Resource Connector host template describes a capability class to the LSF scheduler. It asserts the minimum resources that LSF can expect from an instance provisioned through the template.

Internally, LSF determines a target number of instances for each template by provisionally allocating pending jobs to dummy hosts that represent the templates.

If you have a jobs like e.g. bsub -n 8 -R "span[hosts=1]" ... then you will need one or more template configured with at least 8 cores. Otherwise, LSF won't be able to place the job on a dummy host, and no request will be made to the cloud provider.

slot based dynamic capacity might not work for EDA workloads. WE run most of our jobs with span [hosts=1] parameter. So if not on same host, then ec2 fleet might not work for us on LSF.

The current functionality is behaving as designed from both an LSF and ec2 fleet api. By default the EC2 fleet api has no knowledge of job requirements, and as such, can return anything that meets the basic request - which in most cases will be individual slots. To return instances of a specific size, then those need to be defined in the template list.
