Clearing INVITED status for Service Accounts in SCH Platform when serviceAccounts is enabled

See this idea on ideas.ibm.com

  • SCH's serviceAccounts feature enables SCH Admin users to create SCH API credentials on behalf of other users, so that service accounts (with no SCH login access or could be outside of the customer's IdP) can obtain API credentials and use the REST API.
  • There is a current limitation with this feature, which is when any org-user is created, that user will start in the INVITED status, where their account is active but also there is an email invite which is sent where the user must accept within 7 days
    • After this grace period of 7 days, if the user has not accepted the email invite and logged into SCH, the user will be disabled and their API credentials will no longer work.
    • Currently, the only way to clear the INVITED status is:
      • If the account logs into SCH -- which is not possible in the customer's org where the service account does not have MFA enabled.
      • Disable MFA temporarily so the MFA service account user can log in once -- which is disruptive for the customer's SCH organization process, and would have to be done every time a new service account is created.
      • Switching to Entra ID + SCIM provisioning for the SCH org which does not require new users to accept an invite.
  • Currently, the only workaround for the customer is to use another SCH user which is ACTIVE to renew the service account's email invite for another 7 days.
  • Ideally, the service account feature should fix this first-login requirement, similar to how SCIM provisioned users do not need to login or accept an email invitation to become ACTIVE.

    Hi John,

Thank you for creating this ticket - we are interested in adding this feature to Platform. Our roadmap is quite packed for the next two quarters but we are looking to squeeze this in. We will provide an update once we have more definitive answer for scheduling
