the team is working in this one and it will be included in the 7.0 SDC Release
Should not work with recent SDC releases, but will do with 7.0

I need to check in on this, as it is not clear to me where it landed. Do we know whether MySQL 8.4+ binlog works with a recent SDC release? Is there a specific minor-release version of MySQL required?

after checking this with Eng, it looks like MySQL broke the semver policy in 8.4 doing non-backwards compatible changes. the problem was due to some statements removed https://dev.mysql.com/doc/relnotes/mysql/8.4/en/news-8-4-0.html#mysqld-8-4-0-deprecation-removal
Now it seems like this was fixed later, so the latest version should be able to support 8.4+ we are already updated, so it's needed to add more testing.
We will evaluate the effort and resources to see when can we add this to the table.
