Custom attribute value doing a live lookup on the table, instead of predefined value

This functionality is for the Custom Attribute to be able to connect to a database and then read the data from a table and display as a drop down. Also it must be indexed (searchable) so that the user can search by typing visually. The other requirement is to attach an AD user/group from the LDAP to the list of values.

To clarify, this request, the customer is wanting to use reference data sets as a 'lookup' set of available values when they create custom properties.

Hi Mahmoud, after our meeting with the customer today, my understanding of this enhancement request is to:

    1. support custom properities for users/user groups, so that they can link more users and stakeholders such as stewards, owners to the asset (see "Additional details" field in this Idea). On our product roadmap, we plan to enable lookup of users/groups that are listed in CPD User Management (which in turn can be imported from active directory). This is currently targeted for CPD 4.8. I've promoted this aha idea to the master epic.

    2. ability to filter on these users/groups in custom properties in catalog UI (and global search UI); e.g. their users need to be able to search/filter on assets owned by a certain user which are defined through custom properties. For this, I'll need to have further discussion with our team.

We need some additional clarification on this requirement. If the requirement is to generate a search against values in the data assets themselves, this is out of scope for a metadata management solution. We only have information related to metadata, and will not be connecting for search against actual customer names in the data itself.

If this is about adding custom attributes and restricting the input, that feature was shipped in 4.7. Please see: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cloud-paks/cp-data/4.7.x?topic=types-creating-custom-properties
