“Create Extension Mapping” panel

Description

  • AB users feel IKC requires more screens to accomplish the same tasks than in IGC reducing usability.  IGC offers a more centralized workflow (single screen) vs IKC requiring more fragmented steps across multiple screens.

Current usage in IGC (as explained by Alfonso):

  • Customers use extension mapping documents as a central screen to:
    • Create lineage mappings
    • Define relationships
    • Link glossary terms and technical assets
  • This is valued because:
    • It allows creating one object and managing multiple relationships from a single place
    • It’s perceived as simple and efficient

In IKC

  • The EMD screen is actually designed for technical assets (lineage-enabled assets).
  • It does not support glossary terms directly in mappings.

Discussed solutions

  • The “Create Extension Mapping” panel, which would typically be triggered by a button/action in the UI

Discussed this enhancement with the team - how to accomodate it in the current Catalog page structure. Today we have 2 related actions available in Catalog view under "Add to catalog"

    • Custom asset - which allows to create a custom asset, we could add a variant of this modal to allow creating empty Lineage Mapping Group or Lineage Mapping

    • Lineage Mappings - which opens the regular Lineage Mapping Group import wizard. We could alter this wizard to allow "skip" the import and just create empty template Lineage Mapping Group and/or Lineage Mapping.
