Automating Watsonx.ai installation experience

Why It's Useful:

Automating the installation process reduces barriers to entry and onboarding for non-IBMers, SMEs, and new developers. This simplifies the user experience, leading to a more accessible product. Additionally, automation can lower costs associated with support and training by minimizing manual intervention. happier users often provide better feedback and may lead to increased customer referrals and less burden on IBM technical support, lowering the barrier of entry, creating a better image for IBM products as being easier to use and better overall customer experience and perception.

This should be on the big 10 if IBM wants to truly grow as a company that provides enterprise-grade AI solution that is actually easy to get started with.

Who Would Benefit:

Non-IBM employees without internal support, SMEs needing technical assistance, new developers unfamiliar with the setup process, IBMers looking for efficiency in their tasks, and potential customers who might be deterred by a cumbersome installation.

How It Should Work:

Installation Scripts: Develop scripts tailored to common environments (e.g., Windows, Linux) based on data from past installations.

Starter-Kits: Provide pre-configured kits for popular setups, including documentation and quick start guides.

User-Friendly Tools: Create a GUI or SaaS tool allowing users to select their environment and execute the scripts and required actions with minimal effort.

Support Resources: Include comprehensive user guides and customer support channels for troubleshooting during automation.

Additional considerations: We are aware of an asset named Cloud Pak Deployer, born out of similar needs, which can provide inspiration and leverage to drive this proposed automation however, it is important to understand that this tool still requires Kubernetes knowledge and UX improvement to provide real ease-of-use for end users. The Cloud Pak Deployer is available here: https://ibm.github.io/cloud-pak-deployer/

This proposed approach prioritizes common environments first, ensuring that at least some manual steps are eliminated while still addressing diverse needs through multiple options.
