Terminal access in Spark environments

Customer request: Terminal access in Spark environments (no terminal is available in the Spark runtime; terminal currently exists only in Python runtimes). They want a built‑in terminal/CLI regardless of whether the project is: CP4D project, or Git‑integrated project (e.g., GitHub).

They want to be able to:

  • Enable terminal access in Spark environments (no terminal is available today in the Spark runtime; terminal currently exists only in Python runtimes)

  • Run standard CLI utilities such as curl and other Linux command‑line tools

  • Use the terminal to call Spark and CP4D APIs, perform troubleshooting, and run integration tests — all from within the notebook environment

Additional points from client:

  • The client emphasized that terminal access is required as part of their normal workflow and that:

    • They need the terminal to be available regardless of project type:

      • Standard CP4D projects

      • Git‑integrated projects (e.g., GitHub)

    • They believe this capability previously existed in JupyterLab on CP4D

Core request:
Their core request is the restoration or enablement of the built‑in JupyterLab terminal within Spark‑based notebook runtimes on CP4D.
