Parity of watsonx.data with Databricks and Snowflake Engines (Focus on Performance)

Dear IBM Product Team,

I am writing to propose an urgent enhancement request for our watsonx.data service, specifically addressing the discrepancies in parity and performance between its implementation with Presto Java and Presto C++.

Parity: Currently, while we aim for parity with Presto Java for Prestissimo, there are noticeable limitations in functionality when using Presto C++, particularly in our SaaS environment on IBM Cloud. This discrepancy needs immediate attention to ensure consistent feature availability across all Presto implementations within watsonx.data .

Feature Gap Closure: Identify and implement missing features currently available in Presto Java but absent in Presto C++, including advanced SQL functionalities, robust data types support, etc.

Performance Improvement for Presto C++ (especially in SaaS/IBM Cloud): This issue severely impacts user experience and competitiveness.

Optimization: Presto Java/Presto C++ lags behind in performance, particularly against Databricks and Snowflake

Customer Preference Consideration: Given that many of our customers prefer using Datastage with a Presto connector over Spark, maintaining parity and superior performance in Presto C++ is crucial for customer satisfaction and retention.

In conclusion, addressing these discrepancies will not only ensure feature equivalence across all supported Presto versions within watsonx.data but also enhance our service's overall competitiveness by providing a robust, high-performing solution on IBM Cloud and competition Vendors like Databricks/Snowflake!

I kindly request a prompt review of this situation.

- increase performance, at least to be close to Databricks/Snowflake in IBM Cloud (Saas)
- close parity between Java and C++ version (but better a new create a C+++++ version) which is equal to Databricks/Snowflake for their features!
