We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Post an idea
Upvote ideas that matter most to you
Get feedback from the IBM team to refine your idea
Help IBM prioritize your ideas and requests
The IBM team may need your help to refine the ideas so they may ask for more information or feedback. The product management team will then decide if they can begin working on your idea. If they can start during the next development cycle, they will put the idea on the priority list. Each team at IBM works on a different schedule, where some ideas can be implemented right away, others may be placed on a different schedule.
Receive notification on the decision
Some ideas can be implemented at IBM, while others may not fit within the development plans for the product. In either case, the team will let you know as soon as possible. In some cases, we may be able to find alternatives for ideas which cannot be implemented in a reasonable time.
Improve performance on multifact query on an informix database
We make Cognos reports on multifacts creating multifact queries with full outer join. To keep the query execution time low, we need absolutely the enhancement/fix be implemented in the next informix fixpack 12.10. It is unacceptable when the compe...
Make onstat -g rss log buffer(s) size configurable.
I have run onstat -g rss log and are seeing 10% cache misses on some systems.I would like the underlying buffer space to be configurable similar to etc.As per our Lab Advocate:From my interpretation of the source the information displayed on the p...
Allow placement of tablespace BYTE and TEXT data in a separate dbspace from the table's base row data.
Allow specifying a normal dbspace for a BYTE or TEXT column to isolate IOs for the blob data from main row data for the table. This would be logged space just like IN TABLE as opposed to IN blobspace blob pages.
Informix has a rows/page limit of 255 rows/page.Perhaps this was not a problem originally but over time we have seen new features:larger page sizes (up to 16 kB against 2 kB or 4 kB previously, dependent on operating system).compression option.Thi...
Automatic conversion of ifx_loc_t (TEXT/BYTE) to/from ifx_lo_t (CLOB/BLOB)
We have legacy ESQL/C code using ifx_loc_t to handle TEXT/BYTE columns.Customers want now to replace TEXT/BYTE by CLOB/BLOB columns in the database... and we would avoid to touch our ESQL/C code.Informix can support simple type conversion. For exa...
A tmp database created with the server, analogous to the /tmp file system
In Linux systems (and in all Unix flavors) there is a /tmp directory or better, a /tmp file system. Anyone can create a file or directory in there and, in Linux, it cleared at boot time. (Other flavors use a cron job to clear out unused files.)I...
Our problem is to get complex data from the server in the fastest way. Usually, getting data from a parent -> child relation ships, should be done programatically iterating thru multiple resultsets and getting data one by one.Network overhead i...

This idea is to run update statistics based on selected fragment(s) to refresh table update statistics on latest or selective fragments only. As there are considerable number of fragmented transactional tables are located under current databases t...
Add SQL-statement COMMENT ON as in Oracle or PostgreSQL
For some tables or columns it would be helpful to describe what the table/column is used for since the names are not always self-explanatory.Although COMMENT ON is not part of standard SQL it would be helpful to have such a statement. The DOCUMENT...
