We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Post your ideas
Post ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted and upvote them if they matter to you,
Post an idea
Upvote ideas that matter most to you
Get feedback from the IBM team to refine your idea
Help IBM prioritize your ideas and requests
The IBM team may need your help to refine the ideas so they may ask for more information or feedback. The product management team will then decide if they can begin working on your idea. If they can start during the next development cycle, they will put the idea on the priority list. Each team at IBM works on a different schedule, where some ideas can be implemented right away, others may be placed on a different schedule.
Receive notification on the decision
Some ideas can be implemented at IBM, while others may not fit within the development plans for the product. In either case, the team will let you know as soon as possible. In some cases, we may be able to find alternatives for ideas which cannot be implemented in a reasonable time.
In a 24 hour online Db2 environment it can be difficult to complete an online REORG because the VSAM switch phase may fail, due to the activity on the tablespace being too high. The idea is to use the system monitors or a log analyzer tool to look...
Allow for Multiple Columns on LOAD INTO TABLE WHEN Criteria
We recently converted from BMC to IBM Db2 utilities. It would be very useful if multiple column names could be specified on the WHEN criteria for the Db2 LOAD utility. This would also make the functionality similar to the WHEN criteria of REORG WI...
Rearchitect the colgroup processing to be more granular using multiple sorts as opposed to a single sort or more intelligently avoid the colgroup sort altogether (when possible)
Looking at the job output you sent in, we can see that there are 18 colgroups specified.
Based on the current design, we have a single sort for colgroup(s).
There are 184310123 rows unloaded
The no. of the rows passed to the single
Idea For Limited Partition Locking for RI Related Objects
Lock just the partitions of related objects using a cascaded key structure when utilities are used to write to the database. Allows Db2 RI use to coexist with utility operation when it is impractical to lock all partitions of parents and children.
Automatically Perform a Display with Claimers when Utilities Cannot Perform a Drain on an Object
We recently migrated from BMC Utilities for Db2 to IBM Utilities. One feature that is sorely missed is that when the BMC Utilities would fail to drain because other processes had a claim on the object, BMC Utilities would perform a display with cl...
REORG needs to be enhanced to separate processing for partitions having dictionaries and no dictionaries
Using LISTDEF there are 4 partitions selected to be reorged. Row length 2284 bytes KEEPDICTIONARY used PART 5 - CARDF 50M, dictionary PART 6 - CARDF 60M, dictionary PART 11 - CARDF 110M, dictionary PART 80 - CARDF 150,000, no dictionary Since PART...
Allow TEMPLATE switching for more data sets in REORG and LOAD
Allow TEMPLATE switching in the REORG TABLESPACE, REORG INDEX and LOAD utilities for the necessary work files. For example, small objects may only require data sets with DSNTYPE BASIC and large objects may require data sets with DSNTYPE EXTREQ or ...
Load Utility: Extension of field selection criterion option by AND conditions
The Db2 for z/OS LOAD utility offers a field selection criterion for the INTO TABLE option via WHEN( ... = ...). Since increasingly complex data structures are used application developers want to specify more complex conditions for selection of to...
Implement Inline Image Copies for COPY YES Indexes during Reorg utility operations
There appears to be expected functionality missing within DB2 Reorg Index (and Tablespace) utility operations to allow "normal" Image Copies to be taken inline for Indexes that have been defined as COPY YES similar to the inline Image Copies that ...
