Cognos Analytics Upgrades - Detecting Customized Configurations No longer required

Ultimate Kronos Group (UKG) is a solutions provider with a complex architecture and implementation of Cognos Analytics. One our main struggles is upgrading from one version to the next. UKG has implemented product customizations, advance settings as well as configurations recommended by IBM Support and/or Development teams. As the product is improved some of these configurations or advanced settings become obsolete and can cause unexpected behavior, which we only become aware of after a production failure and escalation to IBM Support.

UKG is requesting an enhancement where upon startup IBM Cognos Analytics compare and log to the cognosserver.log, cogaudit.log or the appropriate log file for each non default setting modified in either physical files (for example the rsvproperties.xml in configuration or the DefaultSettings.xml in the pat folder) or system advanced settings (custom dispatcher settings like primary.wait.ms) and provide details on which settings are no longer required.

We believe all customers, and even customer support would benefit from this change as it would provide for an easy method to compare settings between environments and servers and provide information which would lead to improving the self-service that partners have in planning upgrades, while reducing the dependency on IBM to identify settings which can be removed from version to version.
