Data Module Filter By Names Should Update in Dashboards

Data modules provides a filter by capability. In a dashboard this allows you to create a filter by picking a name and filter by a code. Reports have been able to do this forever - report prompts have a use and display value.

An example is product code and product name. You may want to show the user a list of product names, yet filter by product code.

In a dashboard you can see what filters are applied in many places - for example the filter icon on a visualisation. In a filter by scenario this would show the product name that has been filtered, not the code.

However, if the product name is updated these dashboard filters do not display the updated name. The filter on code is still applied but it shows the wrong name.

This is also true if something is selected - for example a product list. Whilst the product list is still filtered, the updated name is not shown as selected.

This is confusing to users - whilst filters are being applied, they may not be aware of this as there is no selection in the product list.

Dashboards filters/selections when based on product code should update to show the new product name of the product code.

I have attached some example screenshots. In these screenshots the dashboard was originally filtered on "Camping Equipment Version 1".

A simple dashboard of product line list and chart is shown. On this simple dashboard the Camping Equipment Version 1 was selected on product line list. This filters both the list and the chart.

This product line was updated to "Camping Equipment Version 2".

The product line list is still filtered on 991, and the chart is still filtered on 991. However, there is no visual indicator to the user that there is a filter applied.

Ideally the list should show product 991 selected - Camping Equipment Version 2 and the filter tooltips should show Camping Equipment Version2.

This would align with how reporting prompts work. If We had a reporting prompt with use and display, and the use code was defaulted to 991. Then the correct name of camping equipment would always be shown.

This initially rose from a support case that was rejected - working as expected.
