Role customization to control features at more granular level

We have extensively used "User Interface Profiles" in Cognos 10.2.2. After upgrading to Cognos Analytics 11 R5, this feature is deprecated and there is no control over providing different reporting capabilities to different user groups based on their skill level.

The requirement is
- Users who are business analysts will only need access to a simpler ad hoc query/analysis tool equivalent to Workspace Advanced with no advanced features as in Report Studio.

- Users who have enough technical skills to write advanced reports should have access to most of the capabilities from Report Studio. However, we would not want them to use "User Defined SQL" from query toolbox or "HTML item" due to various business reasons.

We have already tried Role Customization but it did not help us achieve what we needed. It's not as granular as it was in C10.

If I wanted to hide “User Defined SQL” in the Query toolbox for a user group, I didn't find a control. All I could do was to hide the “Queries” completely which would hide the query explorer altogether.

I have also tried to adjust permissions on capabilities from "Administration > Security > Capabilities > Report Studio > User Defined SQL", and was able to deny permissions for a user group but it did not “hide” the entry of SQL object alone in query toolbox. This was very much possible with erstwhile user interface profiles.

A strong business reason for us to want to have a better control on capabilities is to distinguish between business users who do not more than ad hoc query/reporting analysis from advanced report authors.

We request to enhance the Role Customization to control access to granular features of Reporting tool. If this can be done by bringing the User Interface Profiles back in to the product, that also will be appreciated.

I think this enhancement request makes a strong case for versions of report authoring based on your role i.e., BA, Power User vs. Report Developer. I see a greater need for this with customers who want to power of data interrogation into the hands of business users.

Lot's of our users previously "Query Studio" are using report with limited capability.
We can't migrate so we are stuck in Cognos 11.0.1 until this functionality comes back.
