Cascade Prompts on filters on Dashboards like reports

We are creating a dashboard that might become public, one of the tables tells has a field for Regular and Temp and it has corresponding field tell us the class. Some classes can be found both regular and Temp. So when we drop the Class field into the filter, it doesn't filter by the Regular or Temp that we chose from the other field.

This and some similar RFE has been open for some time, and is currently in either "future consideration" or "planned for future release". Since there is no foreseeable ETA, hereby adding a use-case to strengthen the requirement.

    Use-case:

We have an unbalanced hierarchy, and if we split that in multiple tab filters,
those would just be tab filters 'Hierarchy - Level 1', 'Hierarchy- Level 2', and so on, each showing mixed data.

The data showing in Level 2 (and further downwards) only makes sense when filtered on Level 1 etc.,
otherwise those tab filters are confusing and user-unfriendly.

    Simplified example:

    • Filter 'Dimension - Level 1': Vehicle/Food
    • Filter 'Dimension - Level 2': Apple/Banana/Boat/Car/Pear

In the above example, obviously we'ld only want to show Car and Boat when Vehicle is selected..

    The only workarounds are:

    • Creating list object that includes the whole hierarchy and use that for filtering. This will only filter the current tab, and takes a lot of dashboard screen estate, and will also create a different type of query (in our case with wrong results).

    • Create one tab filter 'Dimension - Hierarchy' which contains all full paths as text. This is not user friendly, not very readable, and requires a lot of multiselect. Example below:

    Filter 'Dimension - Hierarchy':
    • Vehicle > Car
    • Vehicle > Boat
    • Food > Fruit > Apple
    • Food > Fruit > Banana

(Alternatively a tree prompt would be an other solution (but I guess development effort would be much higher.)

This is just an example, this would not only be beneficial for unbalanced hierarchies but also for regular ones.

My customer Caja AQP is implementing Cognos Analytics and they need this options, i'm doing my best for a workaround, but the competition have this funtionality in dashboards.

This idea and CAOP-I-188 are same.
