Improving the saved search functionality in Watson Discovery Content Miner to better support usability for larger user groups

Background:
In our organization, we anticipate that approximately 100 users will be actively actively working with the Watson Discovery Content Mining application. Each user is expected to create and maintain around 2 saved searches, resulting in a total of approximately 200 saved searches.
Currently, the Watson Discovery Content Miner application displays all saved searches in a single, shared list accessible to all users. This approach presents significant usability challenges:

  • The list becomes cluttered and difficult to navigate.
  • Users struggle to locate their own saved searches.
  • There is no way to organize or filter saved searches by user, purpose, or relevance.

Request:
We propose the following enhancements to improve the saved search experience:

  1. User-Specific Saved Searches: Allow users to view and manage only their own saved searches by default.
  2. Search Ownership and Sharing Controls: Introduce ownership metadata and sharing permissions to allow users to share searches selectively.
  3. Improved UI for Saved Searches: Consider implementing folders, filters, or search functionality within the saved searches list to improve navigation.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced user experience and productivity.
  • Reduced confusion and clutter in the saved search interface.
  • Better alignment with user expectations based on previous experience with Watson Explorer.
