IBM Data Platform Ideas Portal for Customers

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against products and services offered by the IBM Data Platform organization. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Allow 'watching' of single terms/rules for changes

Our key users would like to know if certain terms/rules are edited by other people.

For example:

In our model we have high (NBT) and low level (CBT) terms, which are connected. Different organisations and persons are responsible for the categories where they are stored.

if I am responsible for CBT A, I would like to know if the NBT D it is connected to is edited.  At the moment I do not know that.  When the relation is created, we have a two-way workflow ensuring that both sides are aware of the relation, but after that any edits pass below the radar.  Sometimes that is fine, sometimes not - and it would be great if the users themselves could decide when extra care is useful.

I tried to explain in the original description, but let's try again.  The core challenge here is that workflows are configured on category level and if you're notified, then you will be notified for any term/rule within that category.  This works fine for the persons who are responsible for that category, but not for persons who are interested only in a small subset of the terms/rules within it.

Let's say we have company level category "Party" which contains 200 business terms, related to customers etc.  So there would be a term called "Nordea customer".   There would be a couple persons responsible for maintaining this category and its content.  And then we have 400 application specific categories, which contain a specific version of the term.  They have their own responsible persons.  And maybe 100 of these categories would contain application specific description of 'customer', which all would be related to the above 'Nordea customer'.  When the relationship is formed, we use a workflow that requires approval from both sides, and there the notifications work fine.

But what happens when the "Nordea customer" is edited - it's definition is changed, properties added etc?   This is the Nordea level 'master term' so of course the people who have linked their application level terms to it should be aware of the change.  They are related.  Thus they'd like to "watch" this specific term.

Currently there is no mechanism for it.  Workflows are configured on a category level, so if they would be informed of changes within "Party" category, they would be spammed any time any of those 200 terms it contains are changed.

Before we build a dedicated Watch feature, we'd like to check whether the existing workflow notifications in IBM Knowledge Catalog could cover this. Governance artifact workflows are triggered by events such as updating an artifact, and are scoped to specific categories and artifact types. For each workflow step, notifications can be enabled for selected users, delivered to the notification bell and optionally by email. See Managing workflow configurations for governance artifacts: https://www.ibm.com/docs/SSQNUZ_5.2.x/wsj/governance/workflow-definition.html

Could you explain why this wouldn't meet your needs?
