Integration between WKC and Cognos

The more customers work on the idea of the "Ladder to AI", the more integration between all steps is needed. When defining Metadata and Governance in WKC, using the assets in Watson Studio, DataStage and other components, Cognos should be taken into account as well! When business users work on their Dashboards and Reports, they should have direct access via built in functionality to access the metadata or lineage that makes up the asset they are actually querying. I know this was possible with standalone Cognos and IGC, with some manual work. At first, this should be possible again: WKC providing an API which can be used to query the metadata from other tools like Cognos. But for longer term, this should be OOTB functionality

Hi Marc, regarding your comment, this type of integration for the Cognos application to call WKC API to retrieve metadata from WKC for display in Cognos UI would need to be addressed by the Cognos team. Greg McDonald the PM for CA is already aware that WKC REST APIs are already available for CA to call. I suggest you create a separate Idea for the Cognos team, but they are aware of the requirement since it has come up with another customer that Greg is providing updates to on this topic.

In former versions of IGC, it was possible to access Metadata by a pre-integrated functionality in Cognos to call the IGC API to get the Metadata of the Asset actually accessed. When will this API for WKC available again? It would be easy to include this in Cognos by a Report developer, but of course pre-integrated would be a lot better, too. I will post this question for Cognos as well, to get their feedback as well.

Hi, thanks for consistently updating! I just thought, that the idea of MANTA will drive in a different direction (still very valuable, of course!). What I (and the customers I am working for) are asking, is the following possibility: while using Cognos during both Design of Reports and Dashboards, but also during usage (End-Users!), they must have an understanding of the underlying data source and also lineage. The best place to store this information is in a Data Catalog - WKC.

Target timeline to support metadata and lineage import of Cognos assets through MANTA Automated Data Lineage add-on has been changed to 2Q 2023.
