Application Developers use Data Source Explorer in Data Studio to display external COBOL stored procedures from the db2 catalog. They right click and get options to run the stored procedure after inputting values, generate the DDL and can also drop the procedure. We would like this functionality added to Db2 Developer Extension. Our shop has 586 COBOL stored procedures. Helpful for testing exercises is to also be able to save the input variables into flat files and then reload those values from those files when testing. This is not possible with Db2 Developer Extension which delays and complicates testing. It is imperative that the data type be displayed and also defaulted where applicable on data types.
This is basic functionality that needs to be supported in Developer Extension to be a viable option for Data Studio replacement.
Thanks

Hi Dianne, Thank you for your response. I have shared it with our SME and will notify you when I received their feedback.
Sincerely,
The Db2 for z/OS team
Hi Janet. Ideally, the functionality should be available to both Db2 Dev Extension and IDZ. I am not sure if IDZ requires a license, and the packaging of this product is cumbersome in our environment. In our shop, not all developers have mainframe access or IDZ. It's my understanding that functionality typically is introduced in Dev Ext first then to IDZ if applicable. If this can be added to IDZ in an expedited fashion first, then that would most likely meet our immediate needs. We would then expect this to be added to Dev Ext soon after. At, a minimum, a developer should be able to right click and execute a COBOL stored procedure in Dev Ext. Then the others feature could be added at a later time assuming the functionality existing in IDZ. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Hello Diane, The Db2 for z/OS Dev Extension SME has reviewed this idea and would like to know if you are looking for this support specifically from VSCode Dev. Extention or from Eclipse based ID/z product? Please let us know.
Sincerely,
The Db2 for z/OS team
This enhancement needs to be available for Db2 z/OS. Please assign to appropriate area or advise if I need to open under a different category. Thanks,
