Access data of SP's WLM DSSPRINT DD in execution time when called from external program (ex. Cobol)

Hi IBM,

We opened CASE TS003473597 to treat this issue but as we did not have solution from you we decide to ask it by "new idea". So we have some maintenance COBOL programs that make the call to the SP DSNUTILU to run some db2 utilities, so then the problem that occurs when we do the backup via flashcopy, the messages from ADRDSSU go to the dd DSSPRINT, but we could not access this dataset during execution time to handle error messages.

    Thank you for submitting this request. The Db2 for z/OS development team has reviewed this requirement and determined it is asking for the ability to read DSSPRINT whilst the utility is running. This isn't possible but it's not a Db2 restriction. It also mentions that it would be helpful if DSSPRINT were redirected to SYSPRINT and included in SYSPRINT output. If that is desired then please open a new Aha idea for that. Note though that the COBOL application that invokes the utility through DSNUTILU still will not be able to access SYSPRINT whilst the utility is running. It would be possible though to see the information from SDSF for example.
